The Forum of Mayors of Northeast Asia was first successfully organized in 2014 by the Office of the Mayor of the Capital City in cooperation with the Asia Foundation, and has been continuously held until now. Representatives from more than 40 cities of Mongolia, Russian Federation, People`s of China, Republic of Korea, Democratic People`s Republic of Korea and Japan participated in five forums and one thematic meeting held in the past, discussed and shared their experiences.
In recent years, the rate of urbanization in Asian cities has been the highest in the world, and by 2030, almost 57 percent of Asia’s population is expected to live in urban areas. Therefore, along with the rapid growth of urbanization, there is a need to properly manage many problems such as proper urban planning, air and soil pollution, waste, and proper energy use, and create good city governance.
